Had a mega craving for Spaghetti vongole 2 Saturdays ago and decided to venture into making that for dinner.

Caught on the baking bug these few days.

Decided to bake after attending a cooking demonstration on how to use my oven. The trainer gave us receipe for banana muffins. Thus decided to try it out the very moment i return home since I have all the ingredients waiting for me at home.

Weekends – a two day break from the usual work week.
Work last week had been hectic. My last weekend was burnt, trying to rush a paper out for the Board of Trustees. The few days of reduced sleep left me feeling very groggy and lethargic throughout the week. So I am very glad for this weekend. In fact, I cannot wait for it to come!
It finally came! I wanted to start my weekend on the Friday night catching up on housework. But sad to say, I slept while putting Isaac to bed as well. Sat came. We started the day with breakfast (as usual) with 4th auntie. We went to Chinatown. Had a variety of food (wanton mee, porridge, yam cake, chee cheong fun, braised chicken leg, siew mai, har kow, carrot cake, etc) which led Isaac to make this comment:” Wow, are we eating buffet?”
After that, we decided to go to RWS to take a look. None of us had been there, so we all decided that we do a boardwalk, pay $1 each for admission and then walk around RWS.

Took some pictures of the place. Majority are picts of this chocolate shop which made me feel as if I am up in the Candyland of Magic Faraway Tree.

Met up with my tail who came back from USA. We went to this eatery at vivo -黑色会. I had been eyeing on this restaurant for ages and finally got a chance to try out the food there. The snack - fried fish skin was superb. Crispy n lighted salted. Pure addiction! I think this was the only food worth mentioning as the rest were just very usual dim sum taste. In fact I thought their 凤爪 was terrible n paled in comparison to Happy Joy restaurant. Here are some pics taken....

Ever since we left for Shanghai two Decembers ago, I have not been updating my blog. Mainly cos the great firewall of china blocks out blogspot. Thus I had shifted to sina blog to record my adventures in Shanghai. After coming back in Nov, I was so caught up with work. Now that I am miee settled with work, house and daily life, I shall begin blogging again.

This park is the former site of the Great China Rubber Works. It is a very peaceful oasis in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Xujiahui right outside the park. We did not manage to walk the whole park as it was very very windy that morning (you can see how wrapped up Isaac was - In fact, he was not very well prepared for the walk cos i did not expect the wind to be so strong)

Isaac was coughing and having cold on and off for the past 4 weeks. I tried giving him cough/cold medicine from our sg dr. He recovered but after 1 week, the cough/cold combi came back again. Medicine finished and now the decision whether to bring him to see a dr over at China. I have heard many horror stories about drs in China. Thus, decided to go by recommendations from the shanghai mamas. They recommended 2 and i did background checks on two. Being KS, i also booked appointment for both the doctors.

Waiting for our turn at American-Sino Hospital. THe wait was less than 5 mins. Not bad! We also had a personal nurse guiding us throughout the visit.

Overall damage - RMB 600 including medication. Dr is fine, attentive, did the checks on him but can be more personal.

Actually we are supposed to fly off Tuesday midnight...but Desmond needs to go over to middle east somewhere in Jan (yes, middle east...so dangerous right? Saudi, KUWAIT!! Dubai and Abu Dabi) and thus needed to apply for visa over in Singapore before flying over to Shanghai. So now, it is waiting, waiting and more waiting....

We are going to Shanghai soon....in about less than 14 days ...that is if our visa application is through. We are now waiting for the documents from Shanghai and onces they are here, we will proceed with the application. After since I resigned from that dreary workplace of mine in one and a half months ago, I have been very happy and enjoying myself. No more headaches, sian-ness and dragging myself, hoping each day will end fast. I am enjoying my work in my extremely flexible organisation and I am truly grateful for that.

I feel so good after resigning from my previous workplace. No more feeling of sian-ness that I have to face fake people, wacko bosses, meaningless work. Ultimate liberation! I have never feel so stifled in all of my working life. Anyways, i am glad i am out of it and now am enjoying every bit of my professional and personal life. Everyday, unless there are meetings, if not, I will go for a swim first. Thereafter, log on to my lappy and start work. Cool! Afternoons are spent playing with Isaac for a couple of hours and then back to work again. Evenings are spent with hubby and kid and after he slept, it's work once again. I think hours are longer but at least it is not rigid and most importantly, i enjoy what i am doing.

What a scare!!!

Had a bad scare last Monday at home. I ha just stepped out of the bathroom after bathing and saw the oven on fire. Mum was cooking at the stove, some distance away from the oven and thus did not notice the fire. It started off with a very small fire (about 4 cm high and 2cm wide) and within seconds, it burst into flames of 1m high. I shouted for my parents and they quickly ran to put out the fire. I got a pail of water, ready to splash at the fire. Luckily my mum was quick thinking and prevented me from doing so cos water on oil/electrical fire will make it worse. I suddenly thought of the fire extinguisher which i bought from a fire prevention talk at RP. My mum handed the extinguisher to my dad (cos no one knows how to use it
;-( ) and my dad became the hero for the day!! 3 cheers for my dad!! Here are some pictures of the aftermath.

We went to view another apartment yesterday. The ID of that new launch was superb. Des, me and even Isaac was taken aback by the luxourious design and quality finishing. Unfortunately, it cost a whopping 2.375 million to get one unit.

Isaac saw the OKTO advertisement for Happy Tots 2009 on TV and wanted to go. He wanted to watch tweety bird performance in the Happy Tots carnival. So we went, despite it raining rather heavily that day. We reached there about 1130am and the carnival started at 12pm so we joined the queue. Halfway through the queuing, one of the organisers approached us and asked if we wanted to enter the Happy Tots Photo Contest (only for the first 100). Since we were already there, might as well join and let him experience the fun.

I bought a Jade pi xiu bracelet from China recently. As it has not been cleansed, i decided to bring to J's shop for cleansing. She put the bracelet into the singing bowl to rid it of all 'dirty' things. I decided to wear it at the bus stop whilst waiting for my bus to arrive. Immediately after i wore it, the bus came and i rushed up the bus and tapped my ezlink card. I found a seat at the back and the moment i sat down on the seat, the bracelet broke. All the jade beads and the pi xiu fell into my bag, i heard the sound of beads dropping on the floor, i bend down but could not find any.

I felt as if my body was drained of all load ( i had been feeling tired recently) and I thought, hmmm...maybe the pi xiu helped me in some ways cos after cleansing, its powers could have been upped..;-P dunno if it is true but i chose to believe.

Since balloting for the NDP tickets was introduced, my mum will urged all in the family to ballot. The first year it was introduced, my brother got 4 tickets to watch the actual NDP parade. Boy, was she excited! She got all of us to buy the red “We love Singapore” T shirt from Giordano and made us wear it. It was funny seeing both my parents in that t shirt and carrying their fun packs excitedly. This year, Desmond got the tickets – 6 tickets to watch the actual parade at the flating platform. My mum was excited as usual and started to ask me to watch out for those red national day parade t- shirts sold at the stores. I was infected by her excitement, Isaac will get to watch the helicopters fly past and the troops marching in. Watch out for the pictures! We are going to celebrate Singapore and my mum's birthday on the floating platform.

Last Monday I was travelling on a bus to meet my tail at Taka to do the derma scan at Imeeden boutique. I waited close to 20 mins for the bus. There was lots of passengers boarding the bus at various stops cos of the delay. Then one man boarded the bus at GWC. The moment he boarded the bus, he started to swing his arms up and questioned the driver loudly abt the delay. The bus driver replied, 'i don't know, I just drive my bus!' The man then went off to find a seat. Then the bus driver started mumbling to himself about being questioned for no reason and scolded the man for being a gangster. Vulgarities soon came out from his mouth. He scolded all the way from GWC to Lucky Plaza.

Initially I was irritated by the impatience of the passenger. But this soon gave way to being disgusted with the behaviour of the bus driver. Yes, the passenger was wrong to question him for having to wait for close to 20 mins for the bus. But he should not have gone on and on spewing vulgarities at him. I am so disgusted at the lack of gracious of the driver. To end the episode, the back of the driver's seat had a poster of PCK and his wife promoting a gracious bus journey...HOW IRONIC!!

The moment, we were at Marks and Spencer, Isaac saw his favourite biscuits and made a dash to grab them. I asked him to carry all the boxes to the cashier for payment and he did dutifully. So proud of him!

I have been rather dormant lately. In fact ever since i came back to Singapore, I have not been blogging daily. Been so busy taking care of Isaac. He is getting really fun and mischevious and time passes so ever fast when I am taking care of him. Will blog more often...

Have not been posting for so long. Nothing interesting in my life la. Back in Singapore to escape the bitter winter coldness of Beijing...should be going back again in May....Apart from hollering after Isaac at home, I have been like visiting almost all the shopping centres in Singapore (okok, i am exaggerating, maybe whole of Orchard and Vivo), window shopping la, never buy anything...not working so very very poor....

After many weeks of merry making and feasting, the needle on my bathroom scale seemed to be forever pointing to the ascending number...so i decided to SERIOUSLY...ok ok, i have been saying this for tons of years....LOSE WEIGHT! So I did some web surfing and decided to go and enquire at AiXXX Slimming Centre - Acupuncture type.

Having just overcome my fear for needles only 2 plus years back, i decide to put myself to the test. The visit to Aimin started with a consultation about their package. At the end of it, she asked if I would like a trial. I was like OMG!!! No No..i am not ready, i came just to enquire ...can i give it a try again day? Maybe tmr? She persuaded me and said that it was a painless process....I finally gave in....

Nervously, I went into the room and lie on the bed waiting for the acupuncturist. My heart was booming like the old grandfather clock....Few minutes later, she came in and drew out the needles. I freaked out the moment i see those needles. Although the needles were very very fine...as fine as our hair, i was still very very frightened...she told me to relax and i asked for another pillow to cover my face and the consultant also came in to hold my hand...finally all the needles were in. There were 18 needles in total - 10 on my tummy, 4 on each side of my legs....it was painless around the tummy area...maybe i have too much fats over there to feel anything.... I could feel the pain when she inserted the needles into my left leg. However, it was bearable.

I lied on the bed for half an hour and finally time to remove all the needles....I finally heave a sigh of relief! Went back to the room and the consultant answered my questions and off I go...No hard selling at all...That was what impressed me....

As to whether i will sign up the package...welll...i need to overcome my fear for needles first...I cant be holding her hand throughout the whole 30 sessions??!!! Hahah

One hour after i was scalded by hot water from the thermal flask that exploded. Teh blisters were starting to form. Various ones later merged to form a mega one which i had to go to the dr's to drain it out. Yucks!

After one week and draining of fluids from the numerous blisters that had mushroomed-
My disfigured right thigh. My left inner thigh too suffered (1 degree burn) but it was not as bad as the right (2 degree burn).

Managing my mane

I really regretted dyeing my hair colour blue black. Regretted letting her persuade me to dye blue black with red colour streak running down my right. That was in July, when i wanted to try something different and of course, look different during my cousin's wedding. Anyways, I have been wanting to try blue black cos they say your hair will look very radiant and shiny.

Little do i know that once you dye blue black, you have to either wait for your new hair to grow out or bleach it if you wanna do another dye job. I went to 2 hair dresser, one in Singapore and the other in Beijing, both tell me the same thing. So since I am in Beijing now, i might as well do my hair once and for all. SO that next time i will be free to dye or highlight my hair and not wait for new hair to grow out.

So i went to the salon near our apartment. They were having some promotion. 30% discount on hair cuts. I chose to let their 总监 cut my hair, since it only cost 98Y or approximately SGD 17. He suggested to remove my present colour from my hair first, then dye the colour that i want and then do a treatment. I managed to negotiate for a free haircut from him. My days of bargaining at 秀水 (a flea market like place in Beijing) works.

I was ushered into an area where the 总监 serves his clients. He and his assistant then started working on my hair. I was given lots of magazine to read, green/red tea to drink and even lap top to surf net. Not bad hor? Then I was given a hand massage by his assistant. I felt really uncomfortable cos i am not used to such things over in Singapore. I rejected her offer but she insisted. I prefer to either sleep or stone when doing my hair. But Ok, what the heck, just try la.

Overall, i am rather pleased with his cut and colour. Here's the before and after shots: Ok, it actually looks much nicer last night..it sort of flattened after one night of sleeping.

Although i always complain about the sun's warm rays shinning onto me in Singappore, I was so so so grateful for the sun in Beijing. It is able to give me some warm midst the cold winter weather in Beijing.

Today we went to "Long De Plaza" to look at Gymboree for Isaac as well as to "Bo Kai Kindergarten" to look at the kindergarten we intend to send Isaac to. Unfortunately, they are not open on weekends, we will try again on weekdays. Here's some pics we took at the park near the kindergarten as well as the kindergarten itself. Desmond and I went to the BJ Municipl Public Security Bureau to settle my residence permit. Summer, her office girl, prepared all the documents for us and we went down right away after all was done. We waited for almost 2 hours for our turn, reason being, there was only one counter open cos the rest went for lunch. ----->> Shouldn't they practise staggered lunch hour?

Finally our turn came. We went happily to the counter, hoping everything will be accepted by the officer. She went through the documents, saw my medical documents and then said crudely, "No, this one will not do, you have to go to the BJ Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine, to exchange your Singapore medical report to BJ one." We were like WTF (*excuse my language, i was really pissed off. I came here, early in the morning after barely touching down for 2 hours and then you tell me this. Well, if she had said you need to do another medical checkup in BJ for this application as your singapore's medical checkup was to apply visa, then, that would be acceptable...but to go there, just to exchange for a report??!!!) So silly!!!!

7-11, a very convenient way to remember my good friend's birthday. This year, this day will carry another precious meaning - the day when I leave Singapore to start another phase of my life. I am going to join my husband in Beijing. 8 more days to go and I am feeling excited yet apprehensive. It is not going to be easy, looking after my precious by myself in a foreign land. How is it going to be like spending winter over there? How am I going to survive speaking mandarin with Singlish over there? I have no idea but I know I have to cope with it. In the meanwhile, I am going to spend my precious 8 days in sunny Singapore well and living it to the fullest!

Went to Sakura Fishmart with Eleana and gang last Tuesday for another pigging out session. They were saying that the sashimi over there was really good and fresh. So we went over to the outlet at The Village Centre.

The moment I stepped put of the lift, I was greeted with a very fishy smell. It was just as if I had stepped into a market. We decided to sit at the other side of the restaurant, away from the main buying area and kitchen.

we then went to chose our salmon and other fish for sashimi. Besides that, they have rows and rows of Japanese produce. So ...for those Japanese food lover, this place is worth a visit.

I went out with Angela last Tuesday. She came to pick me up at about 10 plus in the morning for a day of pigging and shopping. We had wanted to eat buffet at Sakura at Orchard Shopping centre but we went there too early and we were too hungry, as a result we ended up eating at Parkway Thai at Centrepoint. Not a bad choice actually. Here's some pics of our pig out :

We decided to call it a day at the restaurant after 2/3 rounds of food, 1 round of dessert/ice cream. Not our personal best, perharps we are getting old and our worn out stomach can stomach so much food at one go. So we proceed to the next part - ShoP'in

Actually it was more of Angela accompanying me as I shop around for stuff. I bought bras, panties, wollen tights at Marks and Spencer. Tried on the knee length boots, nearly bought but discovered discolouring at the top of the boots.

Then we went over to OG to check out the boots they carry. Not very nice so we decided to go Robinson's. Saw a pair of ECCO boots, not bad but then no my size! We were walking around and then decided to go to VIVO, since that woman has never been there.

Went to ECCO at Vivo, got that pair of boots. We went pass Giant, saw milk powder on sale and we bought 7 tins, all to be air flown to China.

My total damage for the day? 700 plus....my goodness!!!!!

Operation Panda Bear - Medical Checkup

This morning went for our medical checkup for visa application. SGH is the ONLY hospital that China recognises for its visa. Called up as early as one month ago to book a slot.

Reached there about 10am and registered. I was glad that my mum went with me cos I needed to do blood test, urine test, x ray and ECG. We were both glad that there was internet access over at the Health Screen Centre too. I logged on to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and that kept Isaac occupied for a good half an hour whilst i go for my checks.

X ray was fine, ECG showed that I have an irregular heart beat ( I know about this condition few years back), blood and urine test unknown yet. Issac and I both cleared the physical examination too. Hopefully will get the green light for visa application.

Shopping for Operation Panda Bear

My off days are now spent shopping in preparation for Beijing. Finished buying one set of winter clothing for myself and Isaac. Will not buy too much, just one set cos it is so much cheaper over at Beijing. As long as Isaac got one set to wear when we touch down, it should be fine. I heard it is now 13 degrees over there...shiok!!! I wanna get those knee length boots as well....

I also bought Isaac's cleanser and moisturiser. Bought like half a dozen each. No choice, he has sensitive skin and with the recent milk scandal in China, I don't want to risk it, better ship all over there. Like one of my colleague says, I fast becoming a parallel importer. I plan to send milk powder over as well. Am waiting for sale...i hope it will be soon cos usually they will have sale once every few months.

After having gone through 3 semesters of teaching in this institution that I am in, I am starting to feel bored. Every time i come to class, it will be the same old structure. Borriinnnnggggg..............

I tried to vary the way i conduct third meetings but how much can you vary? The same old structure remains. First meetings still not that bad but I hate second meetings. I really pity the students, sitting through 5 classes per week, for 16 weeks ...My goodness, they would have gone through 480 repetitions for their 3 years of schooling here.....poor things...

Why is it that I dun feel bored in those "lecture and tutorial" type of setting but extremely bored in this setting?

1. We have been apart from half a year. I have learnt to be independent. But 独立的坏处，就是空间的距离。空间的距离不怕，怕只怕，思想和沟通的距离。

2. Relationships are made up of shared experiences. I don't want to be living on past experiences and not play a part in his experiences or he in mine.

3. Dad cannot be an imaginary figure in my child's world. He has to feel, see, listen and communicate with him.

I chanced upon this crystal shop at Chinatown whilst shopping with my dad last week. They were able to mix and match crystals according to what 1 wanted and thus instead of getting 3 bracelets, i.e., one for rutilated quartz, one for black tourmaline and one for dzi beads, i got a 3 in 1 package. Great deal!

1) Rutilated quartz - for accumulation of wealth --->> I received a small windfall on Wednesday, one day after buying it!

2) Black tourmaline - Repelling of negative energies. A protective stone.

3) Heaven and Eart Dzi beads - Balances ying and yang and combines the forces of the three universe - Heaven, Earth and Human. The significance of this combination is said to bring balance and serenity in the order of life, and turn an individual's potentiality into actual vibrant and useful energy and achieve greater things in his life. It'll also help to clear any obstacles which may cause harm --->> One opprtunity came knocking whilst I was waiting for my dzi beads and crystals to be strung.

My new expensive hobby

I am very attracted to new age stuff - fengshui, tarot cards, aura testing and crystals. I am curious and interested in how these mystic things can have such an impact on the lives of human.

My first encounter with crystals was when i was part timing at MCYS 8 years ago. I have one head of department who loved crystals and gave crystals to his colleagues like no one business. From him, I was exposed to crystals and rose quartz was my favourite. My knowlege of crystals during then was that pink crystals were for love and relationship activation whereas yellow crystals were for wealth accumulation. As I progressed in life, crystal became intricately linked to fengshui. I read up and realised how each different type of crystal, when placed in a certain compass direction, will be able to impact our lives.

Recently, I began to go deeper into the study of crystals and discovered how powerful they were. My liking was rekindled after seeing various types of crystals at Jacq's place. I began visiting crystal shops to find out more and feel their vibrations. It also helped as some of my collegues are also avid crytal collectors. These gems have been the centre of my life for the past 2 months.

Crystals can actually communicate with you. When placed in the centre of your palm, you can feel the pulse. You need full concentration to be able to do so as the energy level of crystals are generally weaker than dzi beads 天珠。 Of course, when you buy a new crystal, you should always cleanse if of its previous vibes and infuse it with your own, using the crystal breathing method.

Crystals made an impact in my life. I was very stressed in months of July and it was able to alleviate my moods and emotions. Opportunities started opening up to me when I bought my rutilated quartz, black tourmaline and dzi bead bracelet. Some may say it was just coincidental or plain superstitious. Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion of it.

Grooming

I went for a personal grooming course last friday. What prompted me to go? Partly of my mum's constant nagging that I am fast becoming an auntie in my dressing and partly cos I will be leaving for Beijing soon and when I am over there, would need to meet with Desmond's friends, colleagues and their wives, so I better get my act together...hahahah

Few months ago, I went shopping for an image consultant and finally, after months of deliberation, decided on one. So, paid the deposit and made the booking to meet up with her on 22 August, 11am at her home studio.

On that day itself, I took extra care in dressing myself up. Made sure that I am colour coordinated, hair properly brushed...I did not put on any make up, except for lipstick cos I was afraid that it might interfere with her analysis...

Reached her place and she started the session. It was a three hour session. She started off with colour analysis....My complexion was compared to bales and bales of different coloured cloth. At last, my personal best colours came out.

Next she did the figure analysis. I had to wear my swimsuit and paraded in front of her. She then took out her measuring tape and did some measuring. I am an apple, T shaped with legs longer than my body. Thereafter, she went through what types of clothings are suitable for me. Seems like I have to throw away lots of my existing clothes. Anyways, it was a very good session, at least i am more aware of my body shape...She also gave me tips on how to style my hair.

The last portion was on style. Her analysis of my style was that of classic and a tinge of dramatic. Can you imagine that? Drama mama leh....she sed it was because of that red streak on the right side of my hair...

Overall, i had a good time with her and now it's time for shopping!!!

I had two appointments yesterday. Morning session was with Jacq and Gennet about our collaboration and afternoon session was a 'farewell' lunch with Phei and Iris.

At aboout 8 plus in the morning, I put on my 'joy' stone - Larimar and set off to meet Jacq and Gennet over at Dempsy's Olio. I was there 15 minutes early. Jacq had actually wanted to pick me up the the durian stall at Dempsy and drive me in. Since I was early, I decided to take a leisurely stroll into Dempsy Village. Reached Olio at about 9.20am, waited for them for about 10 minutes. We orderd breakfast and then started to update each other. Thereafter came our biz talk. Jacq told me about her intentions to do an evaluative research on her training program in one JC and one secondary school. We discussed how we could collaborate on them. I was very keen to work with her on these projects and many more to come. However, I was also hesitant about it as I needed to go over to Beijing soon. So I told her about the impending move and how I can work around it. She was nice and said that we could always have discussions online and she could front the meetings with clients. She just needed me to be around inititally, teach her how to market the research component and she will be able to take it from there. If need be, we will factor in the cost of my air tickets and I will fly back for presentations/discussions. This is too good to be true! To think that I was still very worried about how I could marry the two things together the night before. And now it was solved! Happiness!!

We ended our discussion at 12.10pm as I needed to rush off for my lunch appointment with Phei and Iris. Took a MRT over to Toa Payoh. Phei met me at the station control and we walked to Crystal Jade. It was a good lunch. We had a good time catching up with each other and cracking jokes at each other. I will definitely miss my frens when i am over at Beijing.

What a tiring month

July was a very stressful and tiring month for my family. I am so glad Isaac's op was over and everything was fine. 忙完他的事现在该忙我自己的了。I am starting on my diet and exercise plan ( my long overdue one) this wednesday (which is tomorrow). I plan to jog at night, after Isaac slept. Not too late though, Isaac's usually in bed at 8pm and will be in dreamland by 8.45pm or 9pm latest. I guess jogging is still the best way to lose weight.

This was the day of Isaac's op. After the experience I had at the radiology centre, I was well equipped with tools to humour Isaac after his op. I dread the screaming, twisting and turning with anger and frustration at the discomfort of the sedative. So that day I was prepared.

We left the house at about 8.15am. Reached MEH at about 8.35am. Went to register him for the day surgery and then waited at the ward for the surgery. As usual, he was all cranky when nurse came in to take his temperature, pulse and heart beat. At about 9.15am, we changed him into the operating gown and we were all set for 10am.

9.45am, nurse came and led us to the OT. Mum and I went with him. Bro and Dad stayed at the room. Nurse told me to change into the gown as I will be going in with him. She did not made herself clear so i thought i will be with him throughout the op. I started to get panicky and excited. Anyways, I soon realised that i needed to change cos I would be carrying Isaac when Dr Choo administered the GA. 9.55am , Dr Ho, Isaac's neurosurgeon arrived. He spoke to us briefly and then went in to get ready. By this time, Isaac was getting real sleepy. His nap time...

Soon, one by one the nurses who were involved in the op started to come out to the waiting room and played with Isaac. They made a mickey mouse out of the surgical gloves. 10.10am, Isaac and I went in. The staff nurse made Isaac go into the room slowly, telling him that she was a magician and could make the door open by itself (the automatic door of the OT)and distracting him with tricks...

Isaac could sense that they were 'up to no good'. His eyes were super big and alert. The moment the gas came near to his nose, he struggled. We had to hold onto him real tight. But after 5 secs, he zzzzz-ed. I went out and changed out of the gown.

10.10.....10.40am.... 11am....time seemed to pass fast but why isn't the op done? Cos i remembered dr saying if there is no attachment to bone, it will only be half an hour's procedure...11.15am...still no sign...mum and i started to fidget and worry...then at 11.30am, boy boy was wheeled out to the recovery room. I heaved a sigh of relieve. Went out to grab a drink, when i came back, he just gained conscious and was crying.

I carried and comforted him. He was drifting in and out of sleep. Effects of GA. Nurse and dr came out and sed that it was a clean cut, no attachment to bone, everything was fine. 11.45am , back to the ward. 12pm, dr came to tell me what happend in OT and sed it was a dermoid cyst as predicted but to play safe we will send it for lab test. 1pm, dr came again to check on Isaac. Everything was fine, Isaac was discharged.

FINALLY IT WAS OVER.....NOW THE ROAD TO RECOVERY......

Death

This afternoon, after class, received news that my cousin's father in law just passed away. He was a heart patient for 22 years, heart functioning only at 30% all these while. He was admitted to hospital two weeks ago and 2 days ago, his condition took a turn for the worst.

I was talking to my mum about this matter a while ago. I asked her how old he was. She said, '60 plus'? I was wow, ok, assuming my lifespan is also thereabouts, that leaves me with another 30 years. We then started to talk about how when faced with death, human have no choice but to accept it. We can chose not to attend a gathering, a wedding, school, go to work, etc but we cannot chose not to die. Death leaves us with no choice at all. When it comes knocking, we have to go. What happens when we die? Will we still be conscious of where our spirits (if there is) will go to?

17th July 08, 2.30pm. I was walking along the corridor to my class, E35D. i saw one of colleague who asked how was Isaac's op. I was in the midst of complaining to her when my another colleague came by. He was my class's mentor and had just gone to the class to pass them money for their class BBQ this Sat. He told me that my class was planning to give me a surprise later and asked me to act blur.

So I went into the class, pretending nothing was told to me earlier. They started off by saying some of them went off duringsecond breakout. I told them I don't believe as they will never skip my cognitive class (so sad, that means more grading to do). Anyways, it was FISHY cos as they were speaking, 2 of the girls were holding their handphone cameras and shooting video of me. They kept insisting that their classmates really left and were playing soccer on the lawn. I played along and said, 'Oh really?' 'Really one Faci, you don't believe, go to the window and see loh'. Unsuspectingly I pulled opened the blinds and the 5 of them jumped out from behind the blinds. Oh man, I was shocked...I mean I was expecting cockroach or something to be behind there but i did not expect humans!!!!!!

This class is really naughty but i love teaching them. Their class is the only class which I don't dread going to school.I am going to miss them when term ends in a month's time.

Every 10 seconds the connection would go off. It is 1.20 liao, imagine sitting here for close to one and a half hour but nothing done. Piss!!!!!

For the past two weeks, i had been very busy and so many things happened. It started from 5th July. Desmond came back on 5th July for Isaac's operation which was originally scheduled for 7th Jul. This op never materialised of course...due to the mishandling by the doctor and the hospital. You can read about it in my last entry. So the very same day, we went to another PD at Paragon Medical Centre, got a referral to another neurosurgeon at Mt E. Consulted the neurosurgeon on the very same day. Isaac was so tired out by the doctors' visits, so were we!

8th July - Went for the CT scan at Mt E. My goodness, Isaac made so much noise after the sedative wore off. He was crying, screaming and kicking everyone. I think he was terrifed! Poor Boy...he only stopped crying after we stepped out of the hospital grounds. Got the results in the afternoon. EVERYTHING IS WELL...the lump does not appear to be cancerous or anything bad. So dr's advice was unless we are very uncomfortable over the lump, if not there was no urgent need to remove it. It was just a thing existing in between the bone and the skin. We decided to remove it cos you never know when it will mutate. So we scheduled for the op to be done on 19th Jul and Desmond extended his stay in SG.

10th July - Isaac came down with fever, must be the past few days' events getting a toll on him. Fed him with medicine, fever went down. I saw an ulcer on his tongue.

11th July - Isaac's lips were so red! Must be very heaty, his phlegm also got a bit of blood.

12th July - Decided to bring him to the Dr since today Dr Hiak is on duty. Dr said that he got Hand Foot Mouth ....WTF ( excuse my language) I was like.....@#$DJKD...so that means he cannot have the op for fear of complications and contaminating the theatre. No choice, we called the neurosurgeon.

13th July /14th July - Keep on checking his hands and feet for blisters and spots. None seen. Tongue ulcer also gone. Went to consult another doctor. Doctor sed it wasn't HFMD. Just normal cold. Yay! So happy, curfew ended! We went to Vivo and Ikea.
But we decided not to have the op on 19th July cos we wanted him to recover fully and rest for a couple of days.

What a day

Isaac was advised to go for an op to remove a lump near his eyebrow bone on 7th July, 8am. We went there as scheduled and at 7.45am, dr came in and thought us that CT scan was not booked (crazy if we need ct scan before op, isn't it silly to book the op and not the scan?). We have to wait til 9.30 for the scan and 12 for the op. Isaac was already so hungry. He was without food for the past 6 hrs already and imagine waiting for another 4 hrs. Anyways lost all trust in the dr and I simply cant trust my baby in the hands of this stupid dr. So I told desmond that we should cancel the op. I complained to the medical director that night...here is the letter:

Re: Feedback on bad medical service rendered by Dr Ng XX

Having given birth to my son at Raffles Hospital 19 months ago, I had always been very impressed with the high level of quality healthcare and service your hospital provides. However, this one incident that happened this morning, greatly shaken my confidence in going to Raffles Hospital for any of my healthcare needs ever again.
My son, Isaac was scheduled to have a CT scan as well as an operation to remove a lump on his left eyebrow bone (diagnosis was external angular dermatoid) today, 7th Jul 08, at 8am by Dr Ng XX. However, we were informed by Dr Ng at about 7.45am that CT scan was not booked and we had to reschedule the scan as well as the operation. My husband and I were very appalled at the how unprofessional he was in handling the matter (no explanation whatsoever given and left us standing in the cold - my baby had gone without food for hours and my husband came back to Singapore especially for this op) and decided to cancel the operation as we had lost all trust in this doctor. Please see below for culmination of events leading to loss of trust. We are requesting that the hospital investigates into this matter and provides us with an explanation.
Here’s the background to the issue:
I was recommended by Dr Tan XX from Children’s Centre to Dr Ng XX after discovering a lump near the eyebrow bone of my son. Dr Ng has been monitoring the growth for a few months and recently he observed (visually, it was not even measured, apart from the first consultation) that the growth increased in size. During the consultation sessions I had with him, Dr Ng gave a very ‘bo chup’ attitude and many a times my questions were met with one liner answers. Although I was uncomfortable and not happy with his answers, I trusted his medical advice since he is the expert in this field.
When Dr Ng recommended surgery for my son, I told him I needed to check with my husband who was based overseas. I was told to inform his nurse, SXXXy, at Surgery Centre if we decided to go ahead. I called SXXXy few days later informing our decision to go ahead. I asked her if the doctor needed any pre op procedures to assess extent of growth. SXXXy checked with Dr Ng and said that there was no need for any blood test, scans or xray prior to the op. “Just go to level 8 at 6am on the day of the op will do, no need to do anything before that” - that was her exact words to me.
Feeling uneasy and very uncomfortable about the lack of information, I asked my husband to email Dr Ng on 20 June 08 enquiring about the op procedures again. He replied on 21 June 08 and informed us that there will be a CT scan before the op. As this was not previously conveyed to us, we proceed to ask him further questions in the email which he did not answer. Please see email below. He did not reply despite us sending another email to him on 4 Jul 08. We decided to go ahead with the op despite not having heard from him since we had already scheduled it with the hospital.
There are two aspects which we wish to highlight:

1. Slipshod hospital procedures

Did Dr Ng inform SXXXy that there should be a CT scan? If yes, why was it not communicated to us? If a CT scan is needed before the op, why was it not scheduled by the hospital?

2. Lack of professionalism
The way Dr Ng handles patients greatly needs improvement. As patients, we trust the doctor’s professional advice and rely on their expertise for us to make informed choices. Information about the surgery was definitely missing and his attitude leaves much to be desired. Even though he is a sessional consultant with your hospital, does it also mean that he gives only half the effort in treating patients?

Havent been indulging in my 'tai tai' activities for so long. My time has been pretty much taken up by my little precious. Well, i guess that is why they alway say that when you are married and have kids, you will end up being a 黄脸婆。No No, I do not want to become one, it is just too scary. I must make this extra effort to maintain and take care of my appearance. If not those monies spent on facial, skin care and collagen drinks will be wasted.

So i decided to go and do something to my hair. Although my mother insists that my hair looks ok, i still feel that it looks like a messy mushroom. Thus, I decided to rebond. I always feel good when i rebond my hair. Looking at my pencil straight hair which does not require any combing makes me feel ...oh so very good....hahahh

The salon also has pedicure services, thus i decided to try something which I have been eyeing for for a long time - nail art...yes, although this has been around for so long, i did not try it cos i feel that it is a waste of time, what if myprecious destroys my nails. Anyways, I shall stop thinking about these and start to do what I always did before I had him.

My rebonded hair and painted toes really made a difference! I felt detoxed and cleansed. I even put on make up to school today, which I stopped doing it since Desmond stopped fetching me to work. Cos hor, it is really uncomfortable having a sweaty made up face due to the long walk from MRT to school. I shall take a picture of my toes later when i get back from work.

I was super pissed with my class today. I was trying to crack my brains to vary the meetings so as to make their lesson more interesting and in the end, they do not appreciate it and even complained!

Since this week's topic was on interaction, I decided to let the various teams appreciate different modes of interaction in learning. Three teams did discussion via msn and the other two teams normal verbal discussions. I decided to bring them to the library for our second meeting to let them have a feel of doing research with books. After I had presented my ideas to them at the end of the first meeting. They complained! Saying that they are too lazy to move to library; need to bring their backs and bums over there and back to class again for their third meeting was too much an hassle. One even said to his team mates loudly ( yes i heard you WL) that if they were doing discussion in MSN, then might as well stay at home and not come to school.

Oh man, i was so pissed!!!!! Here am I trying to make the lesson enjoyable for you guys and here you are complaining. Makes me want to drop this class so much!

When my god sis and bro came over to stay at my mum place, we brought them as well as Isaac and my bro to the Southern Ridges. Although we did not manage to walk the whole 9km trail (cos Isaac needs his morning sleep), the walk was enjoyable. It was enjoyable because of the scenery. a nice change from concretes to something more green. However, it was rather packed with people (new things ma, Singaporeans always like new things)and somehow it destroyed the serenity of the place. I would love to go up there alone in the evening, hopefully it will not be so crowded.
