Rules ahoy!

We, Singaporeans are so rules bounded. On the roads, there are signs dictating what should be the appropriate speed, which are the left turning lanes and which are the right turning ones. There are many more rules, ask anyone who went through their highway code. In schools, students have to abide by their school rules, if not risk being labelled as deviant. In office, there are also rules to follow. For example, my office has this hilarious rule of whoever is late for more than 3 times will be counselled by boss. (Ha!). Another illogical one - those who are on course and needs to come back to office for clinical or other official duties cannot claim for time off because going for course is considered a privilege and not an entitlement (Hey, it sounded so much like when I was in the airforce) for the employee. Going for course is for professional development and ultimately the company will benefit. Of course I cannot deny the fact that the employer is the one who benefited most in terms of knowledge gain but hey why be so calculative??!
Rules are parameters set up to guide us; we should not let it dictate us, much less for the illogical ones.
