Do not go the The Studioloft for any photo taking

Dear friends,

I have a very bad experience with Maryann from the Studio Loft. I brought my son for a photo shoot last month based on my colleague's recommendation. Their service was horrible.

1) She was very rough when she handled my son. She carried him very roughly and force him to sit still in the basket. As he was not wearing any top, his back suffered a few scratches as the basket was rattan.

2) The delivery of the pics took close to one month. Granted that they are shifting to another premise but they should ensure that the processing time shoudl not take so long.

3) Collection of pics - I arranged to collect the pics from her at a stipulated time and date. She agreed and when i emailed to confirm the timing again, she said that she need to go out to buy something for her new studio and will hang the pics outside her door!!!! My goodness, what customer service is that? Totally irresponsible.

Things happen for a reason

Lately I had been so tired. I think it was the accumulation of so many things happening in my life, that left me physically and mntally tired. I so badly need a respite, i need a sanctuary to recharge and to find the balance. Anyways that was my state of mind...until i met up with this old friend of mine and her partner. Since she started her own training company, we have been wanting to meet, yet everytime we could not as our schedule clashed. Finally, I met up with her yesterday and we were catching up with each other's life and also discussing about our possible biz collaboration. And i think i finslly found a harbour which I could dock temporarily, stepping out of my hectic life, taking a breather and really take stock of my life. This was what I had been wanting to do for close to 2years but i never had the opppty, until i met up with this fren of mine. Thus i firmly believe - things happen for a reason. It was for a reason that out of the blue i clicked on her profile in facebook and realised she started another company with her partner; it was for a reason that i decided to send her a note in facebook as I was looking for biz oppty after turning AA; And guess what? I saw a rainbow early this morning and I think it serves as an indication of a promise of hope.

Meditation

I was talking to my father in law's friend who came back to Singapore for hols. Although he had lived in US for more than 2 decades, he was still very much a traditionalist. He has very advanced level of training in Buddhism and since I am very interested in Buddhism (having finished a basic course in Buddhism organised by Kong Meng Shan Por Kar Si few years ago), I began to consult him on meditation. He started telling me how to meditate, the correct posture and what goes on in your mind during meditation. Very interesting..

Establishing another new routine

I have been so busy since the day I came back from Beijing. Adjusting to staying with my parents again, adjusting to taking care of bibi alone over weekends, adjusting to having to take bus/mrt to work and adjusting to life without Desmond. So far it was tough in the beginning when we (my family and myself) have not establish a routine. Everything was so not in synch and random. It took us at least a week to settle down - to pack my things neatly in the utility room and get Isaac used to living with my parents.

After settling the home front, I need to settle Desmond's stuff. There were bills to be paid and outstanding stuff to settle. Oh boy, i was like a secretary to Desmond's unfinished matters in Singapore. Thereafter, I had to settle my work, tendered my resignation as an academic stuff and converted to an academic associate. Then I had to contact my research contacts back and informed them that I am available for research consultancy once again! Glad that some far responses have been positive and am meeting a couple of them over these two weeks to discuss research plans for their organisation. I simply LOVE research. So much better than that Specialist Diploma in Healthcare Education. That was like a piece of dead meat shoved into my throat, disgusting! I rather be PIs of several COLs then be the module chair for this.

Nothing beats seeing it with your eyes...Part 3

29.03.08
Got a map from the hotel and started to explore the famous places. I went to 天安门,故宫 and Chairman Mao’s memorial hall. It was a cold day about 8 degrees Celsius. I heard from the TV that it will rain but I refuse to bring an umbrella. I was so impressed with their MRT and bus system. It was very easy getting from one place to another. Desmond had to work so I went out on my own. Some pics with me in it look weird cos I just snapped with my hands outstretched.

Sally brought us to see an apartment that she is helping to rent out at Capital land’s上元 . We were impressed by the cleanliness and the serene surroundings.

AM – Explored the shopping area around our hotel. Went to check out Isaac’s stuff, they have Mummy poko and Pampers over there. Cheaper if you are a member of the supermarket. As for milk powder, they do not carry Gain IQ but Abbott Lab had given us the number to call at their Beijing office, so that is settled.
PM – Went back to hotel. Very tired cos I did not sleep well the past few days. I slept the whole PM away.
Evening - It’s back to business dinners and lunches for Desmond. His colleague gave us a welcome dinner, together with his wife. I have a love and hate relation with these entertainments. Love it cos I can go and explore nice places which I normally will not go; Love it cos I get to see new pple and things; Hate it cos I have to put on a smiley face and network (I am an introvert and all these tax me out! Hahha)

Waitresses setting up the table for us in the restaurant.

Exciting, stressful, lots of adjustments, enriching are just some of the adjectives I can use to describe March. Desmond accepted the offer to relocate to Beijing. We had to rent our house, pack and get them ready for our new tenants. We finally finished packing on Tuesday, one day before he was due to fly off. It was tough, having to unearth five years of things in the house and packing them into boxes. Our flight was in the morning, we had to be in the airport by 6.30am. We could not bring Isaac along as this trip was a recee trip for me. For me to find out how Beijing is like, living conditions over there as well as the schools and medical services over there. Isaac seemed to know that his daddy and mummy were leaving sg. He woke up at 5am, say goodbye to daddy and then went to sleep again at 6 plus.
26.3.08
Walking to the departure gate in Changi.

Transit in Bangkok, Thailand new terminal

Desmond taking a stretch in the plane. Check out his messy hair. He has been sleeping since take off.

Finally touch down at Beijing International Capital Airport at about 1630hrs. 小黄,The driver from his office came to pick us up and send us to our hotel. The moment we stepped into the car park, a bout of chilly wind came gushing onto our face…both Desmond and I looked at each other and for a second , we thought that they air conditioned the car park as well!!!

Hairless trees….

Our dinner on the first night in Beijing. We ate at a food court (北城购物中心)near our hotel. Very big portion and salty. 刀削面 – not bad, just like ban mian in Singapore.
